Tour Itinerary
Day 1 - Meet in Edinburgh
Your Tour Manager greets you in Edinburgh at the Radisson Blu Hotel, superbly
situated at the halfway point of the Royal Mile. This evening we dine together
in the hotel's Great Scots Hall with a special 'Scottish evening', where the
haggis will be piped in and we will be regaled with Scottish tales. (D)
Day 2 - Edinburgh
Your first day is free to explore Scotland's capital. Edinburgh city centre is a
UNESCO World Heritage site, and as visitors wander through the narrow streets of
the medieval Old Town or the Georgian New Town, it's easy to see why it was
awarded this accolade. Just outside our hotel's door is the Royal Mile, with
numerous attractions, or for those wanting to travel a little further afield,
the Royal Yacht Britannia is moored at nearby Leith. (B)
Day 3 - Famous Grouse & Loch Katrine Cruise
Today we head northwards by coach through the rolling Perthshire countryside to
Crieff to visit the Glenturret Distillery. Here we take a tour of the distillery
and sample the distillery's single malt, learning also how they blend different
malts to produce the Famous Grouse. We then continue through the Trossachs to
Loch Katrine, where we enjoy an afternoon cruise on the SS Sir Walter Scott.
(B,D)
Day 4 - Aviemore & the Strathspey Steam Railway
Departing Edinburgh by train, we cross the Forth Rail Bridge and head into
the Cairngorms, with the scenery becoming ever more spectacular as we venture
northwards. At Aviemore, we enjoy some free time before embarking on a nostalgic
return journey on the Strathspey Steam Railway. Travelling from its own
beautifully maintained platforms at Aviemore, the Strathspey Steam Railway
passes over moorlands and through woods on the tracks of the historic Highland
Railway through Boat of Garten, to Broomhill and back to Aviemore. (B,D)
Day 5 - Farewell from Edinburgh
Your Tour Manager bids you farewell today. Perhaps further explore Edinburgh
before returning home. (B)

Trains
Can there be a more civilised way to travel than by rail?
Viewing an ever-changing landscape from the comfort of
your seat is surely the finest way to travel. When travelling by train, your
journey is an integral and delightful part of your holiday experience. What you
see from your seat is as much part of the holiday as arriving at the
destination.
Scotrail
Many of our rail journeys in Scotland are on board the Scotrail
service, operated by First. During these journeys we travel in Standard Class
accommodation.
Hotels
Our hotels have been chosen based on their location, the facilities and value
for money. Where possible we select hotels with individual style and character,
preferably run by local families as we find this gives our hotels a friendlier,
more personal feel. We have worked with many of our hotels for over a decade.
